Restructuring Task Group and Transitional Presbytery Consultation
You are invited to be part of the consultation process to explore what future Presbyteries will look like. The first round of consultations are at BCUC on Wednesday July 24, 3:00pm OR 7:00pm.  RSVP to the office. This session will inform people about what’s happening, but will also be an important opportunity for people to input into the new presbyteries about their expectations, hopes and desires for what these presbyteries will look like from 2020 onwards. This will be an important event in shaping their future.

Breathe: a guided prayer event for Alpha, BCUC & beyond
Sunday July 28, 2-4pm.  In the worship space.  All members are invited to, and strongly encouraged to take part in this prayer event.  Come along and spend some time (as much or as little as you like) in quiet prayer and reflection for the coming Alpha course, for the people and new vision of BCUC, and your concerns in the community and world. There will be some props, music and suggestions to help guide your prayers.

Monday Day Fellowship
Our next meeting is on Monday August 5th at 1:30pm. Our Fellowship is hosting a Community Concern Event supporting the Sammy Di Foundation which is educating both parents and children on the impact of violence and how it may be prevented. A donation of $5 is asked in support of this appeal. All members are encouraged to attend and the congregation is most welcome. Afternoon tea will be supplied and has been organised by the committee.

Passing of Beloved Worshippers
BCUC has suffered the loss of three faithful worshippers recently. Ralph Arthur died on Sunday 30th June. A private service celebrated his life.  Alan Newton and John Govan both died on Monday 8th July. A Service of Thanksgiving for John’s life will be celebrated at BCUC on Friday 19th July at 2pm. Details of Alan’s service will be announced in worship today. Please hold each family in your prayers as you offer thanks to God for the faithful witness and service to Christ and his Church given by these men. – Rob Williams

BCUC Congregation Survey
The Church Council is keen to continue to promote those aspects of church life at BCUC that result in a passionate, committed family of God’s people, with vibrant worship and unified in pursuing God’s plan for us. As part of this process we have created a survey to gain feedback from the congregation that will help to guide our planning.  An email with a link to the survey was sent to members of the congregation on July 8th; please follow that link and submit your survey.  For those who have no access to the internet or are not comfortable with this method, volunteers will be on-hand to help them fill out the form after Sunday services. A paper version of the survey form is available on request.

News from the Uniting Church
On 28 and 29 June, the Synod and Presbytery of the Uniting Church in SA met and made some important decisions including:

•  changes to some of the organizational structures (Presbyteries) within the Church in our State; and
•  the Church’s vision for a just and compassionate Australia (and world).

Next month’s New Times will report on the meeting, but if you’d like to know more in the meantime, have a word to Benji, Rob, Valerie Aloa or Peter Shackleford who were at the meeting.

Surprise the World! The Five Habits of Highly Missional People
TODAY we will be starting a sermon series based on Michael Frost’s book ‘Surprise the Word!’. The book simplifies the way of Jesus for our world today and teaches how to share our faith in surprisingly simple ways. We are also promoting a church-wide small group study based on this book. Please sign up in the foyer after the service to join a discussion group, and pick up a copy of the discussion guide for this study. The book can also be purchased there at a cost of $10.

Community Fete
BCUC Junior Church will be holding a Community Fete on Sunday May 26 and we would really appreciate your support in our effort to raise funds for  Backpacks 4 SA Kids.  You can help by taking part in the car boot sale, baking and selling goods, volunteering, donating raffle prizes, or inviting friends for a fun afternoon.  More details can be found in the flyer available in the foyer.

Mothers’ Day Gift Wrapping
On Wednesday May 8 at 1.30pm the Women’s Ministry group will be gift wrapping for Mothers’ Day. There will be approximately 100 gifts for residents of  Estia and Clayton Church Home aged care facilities. Please bring wrapping paper and ribbons.  New, donated items can be left at reception for Di or Jocelyn before the 8th. Included items: socks, bed socks, shower caps, soap, coat hangers, combs, note pads & pens, pocket tissues, playing cards, hand cream, magnets, small vases.  The afternoon will conclude with afternoon tea.

Police Checks
All regular volunteers at BCUC need to have completed a nationally coordinated criminal history check.   A form for this is available TODAY in the foyer at the “Surprise the World” table.  After receiving your clearance, it is important to provide a copy to Stuart for our records. Note that your clearance expires after three years.  Currently 59 volunteers and employees have valid clearances and 23 have expired clearances.  If your clearance has expired, or if you have not yet obtained one, please pick up the form today.  If  we don’t have a copy of your clearance please email or deliver  one to Stuart in the office or on any Sunday.
