Spirited Generosity : The Next Steps
The Next Steps Our first Expanded Church Council meeting will be on Tuesday the 4th of November. This is a new beginning for Burnside City Uniting Church and is an invitation to everyone in our community to find a way to use the gifts that God has given each of us for this time. This night will be an occasion to celebrate God’s call to us as the church to share the Good News of Jesus Christ in our community. Together we are challenged to find the many exciting ways we can express the love of God to people of all ages. This is an ongoing process that began with the words of Jesus “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Through the “Spirited Generosity” process of the last few months we have discerned the next steps of our call. We have formed Mission Action Areas and developed some goals for 2015 and beyond. We have selected Elders to guide the groups. The next steps are to have everyone determine which area they see God calling them to serve and to select a convenor for each group from within those people. Each group will then have a Convenor and Elder to guide them. Please give prayerful consideration to how you will be a vital part of this new venture. Remember the response of the widow Zarephath, when asked by the prophet Elijah for some bread, “As surely as the Lord your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.” (1 Kings 17:12). When that small gift was offered to the Lord great miracles followed. (You may need to read that for yourself?) Just imagine what God will do when we determine to give our gifts to God today. … Continue reading
