Surprise the World!
The Five Habits of Highly Missional  People
On May 5, we will be starting a sermon series based on Michael Frost’s book ‘Surprise the Word!’. The book simplifies the way of Jesus for our world today and teaches how to share our faith in surprisingly simple ways. We are also promoting a church-wide small group study based on this book. Please sign up in the foyer after the service to join a discussion group, and pick up a copy of the discussion guide for this study. The book can also be purchased there at a cost of $10.

3DNet Pastors Retreat – 2019
Benji and Rob will be attending the 3DNet Pastors Retreat in Hahndorf from Tues. April 30 to Thurs. May 2.

Community Fete
BCUC Junior Church will be holding a Community Fete on Sunday May 26 and we would really appreciate your support in our effort to raise funds for  Backpacks 4 SA Kids.  You can help by taking part in the car boot sale, baking and selling goods, volunteering, donating raffle prizes, or inviting friends for a fun afternoon.  More details can be found in last week’s handout that is available in the foyer

UC Annual Fellowship Day
Friday May 3 @ BCUC
Morning Tea at 10am, Programme starts at 10:30am. Lunch will be provided for $6. Uniting Church Fellowships seeks to develop, encourage and strengthen its members in fellowship, knowledge and love of our Lord Jesus Christ, and through this to minister prayerfully and practically, in outreach to others.

Monday Day Fellowship
May 6. Bus trip to the Repat Museum followed by coffee and cake at Carmelite.  Be at the church at 12:50pm . Cost $22.

Mothers’ Day Gift Wrapping
On Wednesday May 8 at 1.30pm the Women’s Ministry group will be gift wrapping for Mothers’ Day. There will be approximately 100 gifts for residents of  Estia and Clayton Church Home aged care facilities. Please bring wrapping paper and ribbons.  New, donated items can be left at reception for Di or Jocelyn before the 8th. Included items: socks, bed socks, shower caps, soap, coat hangers, combs, note pads & pens, pocket tissues, playing cards, hand cream, magnets, small vases.  The afternoon will conclude with afternoon tea.

Throughout Lent, we will be using our sermons to explore the theme of the cross and what it means for us in our lives.  We will be looking at this theme through the eyes of different New Testament writers.

Easter Family Fun @ 5 on 6th April is seeking helpers! Would you be able to make a tuna bake? (Recipe and main ingredients supplies.)  Can you help sometime between 4.15 to 7.15pm on the day? Morning tea & playtime follow. mainly music is held on Mondays during school term.  If you know a parent, grandparent or carer with children between 0-5 years, suggest that they join in mainly music. Australia Day Honours 2019
In the Australia Day awards one of our BCUC members, Ann Buchan,  was awarded an OAM for service to medicine as a neurological physiotherapist. Congratulations Ann!

Wednesday 9:30am Prayer Group
The prayer group plus short bible study which meets Wednesday mornings at 9.30am resumes Feb 6th and new members are warmly welcomed.  We follow the lectio divina method of listening to God’s message in the Bible. Come along and see if this is a helpful method for you.

This 7 session course is based on the popular books, “The Grace Outpouring” and “The Way of Blessing”. It is God’s desire to bless – both people and situations, and we can be his agents. This inspiring and Bible-based study will be held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month, 10am upstairs in the church.  We would love to have new people join us. Enquiries to Colette Williams.

World Leprosy Day
Event to be held at Knightsbridge Baptist Church, 455 Glynburn Road, Leabrook on February 10th at 2.20 p.m.  Dr. Famkima Darlong will tell a powerful story of individuals’ lives changed, families reconciled, and children set free from stigma, fear and disadvantage.

BICC Prayer Breakfast
Burnside Interchurch Council is having a prayer breakfast at St David’s Anglican Church on Saturday February 2nd at 7.30am.  Please come and join in an excellent breakfast and a friendly chat.  Then pray for the work of the Council – especially its Schools Ministry – and the needs of our community and the world.

Make a note in your diary and let your friends know so they can join us for a fabulous time. In 2019 there will be no cost for campers and helpers so let’s bring as many children as possible. More information will be available soon.  This year we are looking for a coordinator, so if you would like to be part of the KCO leadership team speak to Gaynor Strapp.

Big Week Out
We are excited to be hosting Big Week Out – East Base from January 15 – 18 at BCUC. Big Week Out is for young people in years 8-12 and is an initiative of local churches. It is about young people putting faith into action by serving Jesus in their community. The Big Week Out team is expecting about 100 young people to take part this week. Please be respectful of their space during this time.

Office Closed this Week
The BCUC Office will be closed this week and will re-open on Monday January 14th.  The building will continue to be open and staffed by volunteers during mornings on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Welcome Hamper
BCUC Women’s Ministry Group will be preparing a hamper for our new Minister Benji and his family who will be joining us in January.  Donations for the hamper are invited from anybody who wishes to contribute.  Donations are requested to be delivered to the church on the morning of Wednesday January 9th or to one of us before that day thanks. January Office Hours
The BCUC Office will be open on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week  (Dec 31, Jan 2, 3).  The office will be closed  from Friday Dec 4th and it will re-open on Monday  Dec 14th.  The building will continue to be open and staffed by volunteers during mornings on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.  Note that normal office hours are now Monday to Friday 9:00am to 2:00pm.
