Resurrection life: Abiding in God’s love (1 John 4:7-21, John 15:1-8)

Pastor Linda DriverPastor Linda Driver, 3 May, 2015 preached at a Sunday Morning service

What a joyful weekend we have had: celebrating yesterday the wedding of Ben and Sarah (our youth coordinator and one of our youth leaders) and then today, celebrating the baptism of Chika Timothy.

This sermon was part of a busy service which included the baptism and hearing from the children who went to KCO this year.

Two images: Ben and Sarah’s wedding and the grape vine (John 15:1-8) both deeply connected in a loving, dynamic relationship with God through Christ. Images for us as a community of faith – part of the body of Christ. A community deeply rooted in God, nourished by Jesus, pruned by God the gardener, bearing fruit (Galatians 5:22-23).

Jesus words show that fruitfulness is not so much something we ‘do’ as something we ‘are’. If we remain in Jesus, we will bear fruit. Are you a ‘human being’ or a ‘human doing’? Our ‘doing’ needs to flow out of our ‘being’ – being connected to the vine.

How do you stay connected to the vine? How do you allow God to nourish you?
