Changes to church office hours and administrator role

Historically, like most larger Uniting Churches, BCUC has employed a part-time administrator in the church office. For the last five years, however, we have employed a full-time administrator, to ensure that the church office was kept open for much of the 38 hours per week and to complete several significant projects. These included our new website, the church directory and a range of improved information management systems (e.g. Elvanto/Tithe.ly for our directory and information management, Xero for our financial management, Skedda for room bookings and Proclaim for running services and projecting slides in church).

During the pandemic the additional office hours ensured that we could quickly adapt and offer remote worship, as well as supporting Benji and Rob to support the wider church family.

Now that those major projects are complete and our systems are as up to date and automated as they are, Church Council has concluded that it is time to return to a more traditional part time office arrangement. Additionally, although our numbers are growing again, we are still a smaller congregation than we were before the pandemic and our income has suffered accordingly. The cost of the additional office support has increased far more than our income over the same period, making it financially unsustainable.

From 1 January 2025 onwards the church office will be open from 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm each weekday and the administrator role (i.e. Stuart) will move from casual 38 hours/week to part-time 30 hours/week.

The new arrangements will be closely monitored for effectiveness in case further revisions prove necessary during the year. If you have any questions about the new arrangements or the reasons behind them, please ask Nirmal, Valerie or Tim.

Sincerely,

Nirmal Robinson (Chair, Church Council)
Valerie Aloa (Secretary, Church Council)
Tim Piper (Treasurer, Church Council)
